How long have you been photographing weddings? Are you comfortable giving direction?

I photographed my first wedding in 2012 and have since worked with dozens and dozens of couples. I love that no two weddings are alike! I’ve learned to “read the room” and provide guidance where necessary, particularly during group portraits. During couples’ portraits, I prefer to get you moving and/or talking so you feel natural and at ease in front of the camera.

Do you use film?

I do! I started experimentally incorporating film into weddings in 2020 and it has become an integral part of the work I deliver. The majority of your photographs will be digital, but I want the film portion of your gallery to stand on its own as a beautiful collection of images telling the story of your day. Film adds an element of the unexpected, nostalgia, and gives me freedom to explore new ways of making art through photography. I bring an assortment of vintage film cameras from the 60’s all the way to the 90’s to all of my weddings- 35mm to medium format. I mail the negatives to a lab to be developed, processed, and scanned.

Do you make albums?

All of my wedding collections come with a 12x12” leather-bound album. They’re gorgeous! You can select the images yourself or I can surprise you- your preference.

Should we do an engagement session?

This is likely the first time you’re being professionally photographed, so why let those nerves build up until your actual wedding day? Engagement sessions are such a great way to break the ice AND come away with more casual (or steamy!) photos in a unique location. Many of my couples use them for guest books and/or save the dates. That said, if it’s not a priority for you, that’s ok! We’ll still make amazing photos on your wedding day. Alternatively, if a full engagement session isn’t in your budget, I offer mini sessions in the Baltimore area.

Are you LGBTQ+ friendly?

1000% yes!! I’m sorry this is a question that needs to be asked.

Are you into science?

Oh yeah. I am fully vaccinated and boosted, vaccinated my toddler, and will wear a mask at your wedding if that makes you comfortable.

Do you deliver black and white photographs?

YES! When I’m done editing and exporting your gallery in color, I duplicate every image and carefully edit them in black and white so you have copies of both. Rarely, there are images that just do not work in black and white, so I omit them. But nine times out of ten, each of your photos has artistic merit in that timeless, monochromatic format. And you never have to worry that you’ll wish you could see what a certain black and white photo looks like in color because you’ll have both!

Do we get print rights? Can you print our photos?

You have print rights to all of your images, meaning you can download and print them anywhere. For convenience, your online gallery comes with an embedded shop, meaning that if someone wants to print a photo (or 50) directly from the gallery they can easily choose which size and from a selection of prints, cards (easy thank you notes anyone?!), canvases, mounted prints, and metal prints.

Can we share our photos online?

Abso-freakin-lutely! Share share share! I just ask that you credit McKenzie Elizabeth Photography with a tag and that you not apply filters to your images. You can also share your gallery link with family and friends and they are welcome to use your PIN to download anything they’d like. This is a great way to say thank you to your guests AND a perfect incentive for a cell phone free ceremony where your loved ones are engaged with real life rather than a screen. The promise of a gallery link is great motivation.

What equipment do you use? Are you insured?

I work with two full frame Nikon camera bodies and an assortment of prime and zoom lenses for different scenarios. The 28mm and 58mm are personal favorites and do such a beautiful job of mimicking the way the human eye views the world. I use on-camera flash attachments and typically bounce the light off the ceiling instead of aiming directly at people. As I mentioned above, I have a collection of vintage film cameras, and choose which ones speak to me before your day. And yes- I’m absolutely insured!

When will we receive our photos?

Your photos will be ready within six weeks and I will make your album as soon as you create your favorites list.
